Pastor Dan Sheffield and his wife, Debbie
First Baptist Church of Aberdeen voted last Summer (2011) to dissolve and give all of its assets to the Susquehanna Baptist Association for the purpose of restarting as a new church. Director of Missions for the Association, Dan Sheffield, took on the responsibility of leading the restart. He decided that in order to preserve the 60 year history of the church, the restarted church would continue as First Baptist Church of Aberdeen, with a renewed vision for reaching the city of Aberdeen with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and an expanded vision of becoming actively involved in missions throughout the world. We would love for you to join our efforts or at least to come visit us and get to know us. If you are actively involved in another church, we would like to encourage you to continue serving the Lord where you are, but to please pray for us as we attempt to reach people for the Lord!
Our Mission & Vision
The mission of First Baptist Church of Aberdeen is to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with the people of Aberdeen and throughout the world. We work to accomplish our mission by becoming involved with the people of our community, sending mission teams to help share the Good News of Jesus Christ in other areas of the world, and financially supporting local, state, national, and international mission work.
Dan Sheffield, Pastor
Pastor Dan has been serving First Baptist Church of Aberdeen since the end of August, 2011. He is Director of Missions for Susquehanna Baptist Association, where he has served since 1984. Dan and his wife, Debbie, have three grown children and five grandchildren. Dan is an ordained Southern Baptist minister. He is a graduate of Mercer University, Texas Tech University, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has served as a missionary for the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention for over thirty years.
What we believe:
Our beliefs are best expressed and Scripturally supported by The Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
First Baptist Church of Aberdeen is a member of Susquehanna Baptist Association, and is affiliatied with the Baptist Convention of Maryland/Delaware, and the Southern Baptist Convention.
We are involved in World Missions through giving, praying and going. Financially, we support world missions through the Cooperative Program of the Southern Baptist Convention and special offerings which go to the International Mission Board, North American Mission Board, the Baptist Convention of Maryland/Delaware, and the Susquehanna Baptist Association. A percentage of every dollar we receive goes to support missions through these organizations.
We help send a mission team each year to a remote village in West Africa where we have been helping build a school and have helped furnish clean water through the digging of a well. While we minister to their physical needs we take the opportunity to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with them.

Where Can I Serve?
We believe that Christians should be involved in service outside the walls of the church building. We try to give our people opportunities to serve others in the name of Jesus Christ.
For many years we have been working with other local churches to help feed hot meals to people in need. The meals are served at one of our neighboring churches, Grove Presbyterian Church. We help provide, prepare, and serve food. We also collect food each Sunday that we can give away to those in need.
Alpha’s Glory Pregnancy Resource Center
We collect diapers, baby wipes, and similar items, as well as giving financially to help with the ministry of Alpha’s Glory Pregnancy Resource Center in Aberdeen.
Marriages can be difficult to maintain. Misunderstanding, confusion, resentment, and anger can flare up in any marriage. We want to help maintain marriages and families in any way that we can. Our Pastor is available for marriage counseling by appointment. Call the church office: 410–272-2845.
We believe in the power of prayer. We would consider it a privilege to pray for you and your needs.
We offer Bible study and activities for children during our Worship Service, at a level they can understand and enjoy. So that our families can experience worship together, the children stay in our Worship Service until time for the sermon and then go downstairs for their own time together.
How Do I Meet People?
At First Baptist Church of Aberdeen we like for everybody to know everybody. You will find our people to be some of the friendliest people you have ever met. We take time during our Sunday Morning Worship Service to “Mix and Mingle” with each other. We encourage everyone to talk to anyone that they do not know. We tell our visitors to stay where they are and let our people come to them. We are a small group of people, so this works very well. As we grow it will be more and more of a challenge for everyone to know each other, but we believe it is very important. We really want to know you!
Small Group Studies
We currently have four small group studies: Two are on Sunday morning before our Sunday Morning Worship Service. These Sunday School groups begin meeting at 9:45 a.m. each Sunday and dismiss in time for the Morning Worship Service at 11:00 a.m. They provide a great time for studying the Bible with a small group of people, led by knowledgeable, gifted teachers. On Wednesday nights at 7:00 p.m. we have another Bible study time studying a book of the Bible at a time with open dialogue among participants. Any of these small group studies offer you a time to get to know people better and learn about God’s Word at the same time.
Office Hours: Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 am to 3 pm.
Church Location & Address: 219 E Bel Air Avenue, Aberdeen, MD 21001.
